Most aquariums are bought off a shelf. Standard sizes, standard shapes, the same black silicone trim you see in every fish shop. There is nothing wrong with that for someone starting out. But if you want an aquarium that is built around your space, your taste and what you actually want to keep, a standard tank is always going to be a compromise. We work with you from the first conversation through to installation and handover, and nothing is finalised until you are satisfied with what has been designed. We build freshwater aquariums, planted aquascapes, marine and reef systems, and cold water displays. Free Design Consultation
The first conversation is always free and carries no obligation. We want to understand what you are envisioning, what the space looks like, what your budget is and what kind of livestock you are interested in keeping. We visit the property to see the space in person.
Design Proposal
We put together a full design proposal covering dimensions, construction materials, filtration and equipment specification, the aquascape approach and an estimated build and installation timeline. We go through this with you and revise it until it accurately reflects what you want.
Build and Installation
Once the design is agreed we begin the build. We carry out the installation ourselves. We cycle the tank, prepare the water, install the aquascape and introduce livestock once conditions are confirmed stable. We give you a realistic timeline from the start and stick to it.
Handover and Ongoing Care
We hand over with a full explanation of the equipment, the livestock and what the tank needs going forward. We offer an ongoing maintenance contract from the point of installation. Most clients who commission a bespoke aquarium take this up to keep the tank in the same condition it was on installation day.

Bespoke aquarium projects vary considerably in scope and cost. A custom freshwater tank with cabinetry and full aquascape typically starts from around £1,500. Marine and reef installations, larger systems, built-in designs and projects involving structural modifications or bespoke cabinetry are priced individually. We provide a full written quote after the design consultation. The quote covers everything included in the project with no items left open-ended. We do not add costs partway through a build without discussing them with you first. If you have a budget in mind, tell us what it is at the outset. We will tell you honestly what is achievable within it and where the sensible places to spend and save are.

How long does a bespoke aquarium project take from consultation to installation?
It depends on the size and complexity of the project. A custom freshwater tank with standard cabinetry can typically be installed within 3 to 5 weeks of the design being finalised. Larger projects, marine installations and anything involving bespoke joinery or structural work take longer. We give you a realistic timeline at the proposal stage and we stick to it. If something changes that affects the timeline we tell you immediately rather than letting it drift.
Can you build an aquarium into a wall or existing cabinetry?
Yes. Built-in installations are something we carry out regularly. A tank set into a wall cavity or alcove needs careful planning around access for maintenance, structural support, ventilation for the equipment and waterproofing of the surrounding area. We assess all of this during the consultation. The result, when it is done properly, looks like the aquarium was always meant to be there. We work alongside builders and joiners on renovation projects where the aquarium is being incorporated into a larger build.
What types of aquarium can you design and build?
We design and build freshwater community tanks, planted aquascapes, biotope setups, African cichlid displays, cold water and goldfish tanks, marine fish-only systems, and full reef aquariums. We also build custom koi ponds and indoor water features. The livestock you want to keep shapes the design from the beginning, because the filtration, lighting, flow rate and water chemistry requirements are all different depending on what is living in the tank.
Can you work with my interior designer or architect?
Yes, and we do this regularly. We provide full technical specifications including tank dimensions, weight when filled, equipment footprint, plumbing requirements and electrical load so that the aquarium can be properly accounted for in the wider design. We are happy to attend design meetings, provide drawings and liaise directly with your designer or contractor throughout the project. Getting us involved early in a renovation or new build makes the installation considerably smoother.
Do you offer ongoing maintenance after the aquarium is installed?
Yes. We strongly recommend taking up an ongoing maintenance contract from the point of installation, particularly for marine and reef systems and for any large or complex freshwater setup. A bespoke aquarium represents a significant investment and regular professional maintenance protects that investment. We offer monthly and fortnightly maintenance visits depending on the type of system, and contract clients receive priority emergency call-out cover as part of the arrangement.
