About This Service
Aquarium Repair and Resealing
A leaking aquarium is one of those problems that gets worse the longer you leave it. What starts as a small damp patch on the cabinet can become a failed seal overnight. Water on a wooden floor, soaked through into a ceiling below, a tank that empties faster than you realise. The silicone seals that hold an aquarium together do not last forever. They yellow, they shrink and eventually they let go. AquariumCraft carries out aquarium repair and resealing for fish keepers across North West London. We come to you, assess what is actually wrong and fix it properly. A full reseal where it is needed, a targeted repair where it is not, and honest advice on whether the tank is worth saving or whether something has gone beyond a sensible repair. We work on all types of aquarium. Glass tanks, acrylic tanks, large custom installations, standard off-the-shelf tanks, marine setups and freshwater systems. Size does not put us off. We have resealed tanks of all sizes and we know what a proper reseal looks like compared to a quick patch that fails six months later. People find us by searching for aquarium repair near me and fish tank repair near me. If you are in Harrow, Wembley, Barnet, Finchley, Brent or anywhere across North West London and your tank is leaking or the seals look like they are on their way out, call us before it becomes an emergency.

Who This Service Is For
This service works well for a wide range of fish keepers across North West London.
Leaking Tank Owners
A slow drip or a damp patch under the cabinet that is getting worse. We come out, find the source and fix it properly rather than applying a quick patch that fails again in a few months.
Older Tank Owners
Your tank is several years old and the silicone is yellowing or pulling away in places. A professional reseal extends the life of a quality tank at a fraction of the cost of replacing it.
Second-Hand Tank Buyers
You have bought a used tank and want to be confident in the seals before you fill it with water and livestock. We inspect and reseal where needed.
Acrylic Tank Owners
Acrylic tanks need a different approach to glass. We assess bonding and repair on a case by case basis and advise on the most appropriate method before any work begins.
How It Works
Get in Touch and Describe the Problem
Get in touch and tell us what you are seeing. A photograph of the affected area is helpful but not essential. We ask about the tank size, whether it is glass or acrylic, how old it is and whether it is currently full of water and livestock. We give you a quote based on that information.
On-Site Assessment
We visit and assess the tank. We identify the source of the leak or seal failure and confirm whether a targeted repair or a full strip and reseal is needed. We give you a clear recommendation and a fixed price before any work begins. In many cases we can carry out a minor repair on the same visit.
The Repair
For a full reseal we drain the tank and house the fish safely while the work is carried out. We remove every trace of old silicone and prepare the surfaces properly before applying new aquarium-safe silicone. Proper surface preparation is what separates a lasting repair from one that fails again in months.
Testing and Sign-Off
We cure the silicone for the appropriate period, refill the tank and test it thoroughly before returning the livestock. We confirm there are no remaining issues before we leave and give you a written summary of what was done and what the expected lifespan of the repair is.
Transparent Pricing
Simple, Fixed Pricing. No Hidden Charges.
Targeted silicone repairs for minor leaks start from £55 including the visit and the repair itself. Full strip and reseal jobs are priced based on the size of the tank and the amount of silicone involved. As a guide, a full reseal on a standard tank up to around 120 litres typically starts from £95. Larger tanks are priced individually. If livestock needs to be housed temporarily during the cure period and you do not have a suitable container, we can arrange temporary holding as part of the service at an additional cost. We give you a fixed price after the assessment. There are no hidden charges and no additional costs on the day that were not agreed beforehand.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my aquarium needs resealing or just a minor repair?
The difference usually comes down to where the leak is coming from and the condition of the rest of the silicone. A single section of seal that has pulled away or developed a small gap can often be repaired without touching the rest of the tank. If the silicone is yellowed throughout, brittle, pulling away in multiple places or if the tank is more than 10 years old, a full reseal is usually the more reliable option. We assess this on the visit and give you an honest recommendation rather than automatically suggesting the more expensive job.
Can I use the tank again straight after a reseal?
No. Aquarium silicone needs time to cure fully before the tank can be filled with water. The cure time depends on the product used and the ambient temperature, but as a general rule we advise waiting at least 24 hours before filling and 48 hours before returning livestock. Rushing this is one of the most common reasons a repair fails. We will give you a specific timeframe on the day based on the conditions and the product used.
Is it worth resealing an old tank or should I just replace it?
It depends on the condition of the glass and the frame. A tank with a crack in the glass is not a resealing job, it needs replacing. A tank with intact glass and a sound frame but failing silicone is a good candidate for a reseal and it is almost always cheaper than replacing it with a tank of equivalent quality. We give you a clear view on this when we assess the tank. If we think the tank is not worth the cost of a reseal we will tell you.
Can you reseal an acrylic tank as well as glass?
Yes, with some differences in approach. Acrylic tanks are bonded with solvent cement rather than silicone in their original construction, and repair work on acrylic needs different materials and techniques compared to glass. We assess acrylic tanks on a case by case basis and advise on the most appropriate repair method. Not all acrylic failures can be fixed to the same standard as a glass reseal, and we will be clear about what is achievable before any work is agreed.
What happens to my fish while the tank is being resealed?
The tank needs to be drained for a full reseal, so the fish need temporary housing while the silicone cures. If you have a spare tank or a suitably sized container with a heater and filter, we can use that. If you do not, let us know when you get in touch and we can arrange temporary holding as part of the service. We handle the fish carefully during the move and return them once the tank has been tested and confirmed leak-free.
